In addition to being Certified Fitness Trainers, our trainers complete a rigorous educational program and apprenticeship program, and to take educational courses beyond those required for renewing their certification, in order to assure predictable results for clients.
Doug and his associates have assisted with over 80,000 one-on-one workouts, making this team one of the most experienced in Central Ohio.
Meet Elise Berry
Elise Berry was a four-year varsity soccer letter winner at St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio where she helped guide her team to state championships as a sophomore and a senior. She was chosen second team all-state as a sophomore, first team all-state her final two seasons and was named the Ohio Player of the Year as a junior. Following her successful high school soccer career, Elise played in the national finals in the summer of 1998 on the COSA Express select club team.
Elise attended Purdue University, earning a Bachelor of Arts with a major in Psychology and a minor in African American Studies in December 2002. Elise played four years of varsity women's soccer as a central defender. She is the only women's soccer player in Purdue History to start every game of her career. She was named captain her senior year and awarded Academic All-Big Ten honors her sophomore, junior and senior years. She was named first team All-Big Ten her final two seasons. Off the field, she was selected as a NCAA representative to the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), was a member of the Big Ten Legislative Committee and was chosen 1 of 300 students athletes in the country to attend the NCAA national leadership conference in Orlando, Florida.
Elise's work experience includes over ten years of experience in the Strength and Conditioning field. She is a Certified Personal Trainer (National Academy of Sports Medicine) and Certified Strength, Conditioning Coach (National Strength and Conditioning Association).
Meet Gary Berry
Gary Berry is a Central Ohio native who began his athletic career in high school. In addition to helping the St. Frances DeSales football team achieve a two-year record of 21-2, he rushed for 1000 yards and 19 touchdowns in his senior year.
A graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in African American Studies, Gary played football for the Buckeyes and was a four year starter and letter winner. During his four years as a Buckeye he received the Big Ten Player of the Game award twice, Chevrolet Player of the Game twice, and also was appointed to the Sports Illustrated All-Bowl team. As a sophomore, Gary established a school record by returning 5 interceptions for a total of 166 yards. He played in the Rose Bowl and two Sugar Bowls and helped the Buckeyes to win two Big Ten Championships, with a combined record of 39-11.
Gary was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft, and earned a starting position on both Special Teams and Defense. He created workouts and programs that resulted in exceeding team standards and goals, and led the Rookie Team Meetings. While in Green Bay, Gary was active in the community working to connect kids with professional athletes.
In December of 2002, Gary joined the Columbus Crew preseason squad and became a member of the Columbus Stars Professional development team.
In addition to his stellar playing career, Gary has trained a wide range of athletes, ranging from aspiring high school players to players in major league sports, including the National Football League and the National Hockey League. He has experience coaching youth sports, including local youth and academic and athletic mini camp, and has coached Arizona YMCA summer youth programs.
Today, Gary is associated with Doug Owens Personal Fitness and Boxing, a Wellness Forum company. Gary is an experienced television reporter who has worked for network-affiliated stations in Columbus and is now a sideline reporter and sports analyst for the new Columbus Sports Network.
